In celebration of International Education Week, which is a joint initiative of the US Department of Education and the US Department of State, upper elementary and middle-school teachers are invited to a special International Showcase workshop to be held at the Madison County Public Library in Richmond on Thursday, November 15. Dr. Cynthia Harter, the Director of EKU’s Center for Economic Education, will address the teachers on topics relating to globalization and trade, and teachers will actively participate in lessons from The Wide World of Trade, a curriculum published by the National Council on Economic Education and designed to actively engage inquisitive students.

The National Council on Economic Education publishes several excellent resources on globalization and international trade, and others of these materials will also be showcased at the workshop and given away as door prizes. In addition, we will have a special presentation by international students from Eastern Kentucky University in which they will share their experiences in the US along with information about their home countries. This interesting and informative day will end with a catered lunch.

All teachers who attend the entire workshop will receive a copy of The Wide World of Trade curriculum along with What Economics is About at no charge and 3-hour PD certificates will be sent along with a letter to your principals after the workshop. Although there is a refundable registration fee, the workshop is free for all teachers who register by Friday, November 9. After that, a late registration fee of $20 will apply. See details below.

A tentative agenda is as follows:

8:30 Continental Breakfast
9:00 – 11:00 The Wide World of Trade with Dr. Harter
11:00 – 12:00 EKU International Students’ Presentations
12:00 Complimentary Lunch

The workshop is being conducted by the EKU Center for Economic Education and the Kentucky Council on Economic Education. Partial support for this program is provided by the National Council on Economic Education as part of the Cooperative Education Exchange Program (CEEP). The CEEP is conducted through the US Department of Education, in coordination with the US Department of the State.

Please plan now to attend this event and join us for lunch.
